Live Small-Group Online Tutoring from Canadian Tutors
IHC Academy is the online learning platform of I Help Canadians, a registered Canadian charity based in Calgary, Alberta. It offers live, small-group tutoring taught by vetted Canadian tutors, so learners across Canada can study academic subjects, build practical skills and get support from wherever they live.
This article explains why we created IHC Academy, how it works and how you can take part.
Why we created IHC Academy
IHC Academy is part of Northern YNET, short for Youth Network for Education & Training, one of the 24 Northern programs of I Help Canadians. Northern YNET connects young people to online tutoring, skills training, mentors and digital learning hubs across Canada.
Our goal is simple: help learners build confidence, improve their education outcomes and prepare for future careers or further studies. Good tutoring should not depend on where a family lives, so IHC Academy brings quality instruction online to learners in cities, small towns and remote communities.
What makes IHC Academy different
Live classes. Lessons run in real time, so learners can ask questions, get feedback and stay on track. Live teaching adds structure and accountability that self-paced videos often lack.
Small groups. Small-group tutoring lets a tutor notice who needs help and adjust the pace, while learners still benefit from learning alongside peers. Group sizes are shown on each course page.
Vetted Canadian tutors. Tutors are reviewed before they teach on the platform. Each course page shows who the tutor is and what the course covers.
A wide range of subjects. The catalogue is organized by program and subject, from academic subjects to mental wellness and practical life skills. New courses are added over time.
Accessible learning. Courses are taught online, so learners only need a device and an internet connection. Some courses are free and sponsored by community partners, and the catalogue shows the language each course is taught in.
