Explore BC Life Sciences 11 through cell biology, reproduction, energy transformations, viruses, evolution, biodiversity, classification, and phylogenetic relationships. Students develop conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning, data-analysis, and application skills through diagrams, practice questions, and curriculum-based assessments. The official BC curriculum emphasizes three broad ideas: life results from interactions at molecular and cellular levels; evolution occurs at the population level; and organisms are grouped based on common characteristics.
The BC curriculum explicitly includes cell structure/function, sexual and asexual reproduction, mitosis/meiosis, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, viruses, microevolution, macroevolution, speciation, genetic drift, sexual selection, adaptive radiation, artificial selection, genetic modification, phylogenetic evidence, taxonomy, cladograms and dichotomous keys.
