Chemistry 20 is a prerequisite for Chemistry 30, a higher level chemistry course recommended for university requirements. Most Alberta high-schools recommend first passing Science 10 (specifically the chemistry unit) before enrolling in Chemistry 20). The currculum that will be followed is the one outliuned by the Alberta Education Curriculum.

Chemistry 20 in Alberta consists of four core units of study:
Unit A: The Diversity of Matter and Chemical BondingFocuses on the classification of matter, properties of elements, periodic trends, and chemical bonding theories (ionic and covalent), including molecular shapes and intermolecular forces.
Unit B: Forms of Matter: GasesExplores the behavior of gases, standard conditions (STP and SATP), and quantitative gas laws relating pressure, volume, temperature, and amount of substance.
Unit C: Matter as Solutions, Acids and BasesCovers the properties of solutions, concentration calculations, and an introduction to the chemistry of acids and bases, including pH and stoichiometry in solution.Unit D: Quantitative Relationships in Chemical ChangesEmphasizes stoichiometry, balancing chemical equations, mole ratios, and calculating mass, moles, and particle numbers in chemical reactions.
